General Information

The Texas Southern Gospel School of Music, Inc. (TSGSM) offers the highest caliber of instruction in the field of gospel music.  Each student is placed in classes according to his or her age and music experience.  The study of gospel music instills confidence, creativity, competence, and love for God.  Students will find their attendance at TSGSM a rewarding experience.

Day classes will begin with a devotional at 8:15 a.m. and night classes will begin at 6:00 p.m.  Students are expected to attend all classes except when attending private lessons.

The Texas Southern Gospel School of Music is a Christian organization, and those participating in its activities are expected to conduct themselves accordingly.

*Night classes will be available if needed.  Day students are not required to attend the night
classes from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. However, ALL students, EXCEPT the Level I Song Writing
Class (7- 11 year olds), are required to attend section rehearsals and group singing from
6:00 - 8:30 each night.  Level I (7 - 11 year olds) will join group singing at 7:00 p.m.  All students are expected to be on time.

Closing Program

The closing program will be on Friday night, July 20, 2018, at 7:00 p.m. in the Cook Center Auditorium at Navarro College, 3200 W. 7th Avenue, Corsicana, Texas.  The public is invited to attend the concert, and admission is free.

Tuition and Fees

Registration  

$25.00    This non-refundable fee ($25.00) is paid by all who enroll as students in the TSGSM, including
                   scholarship recipients.
 For non-scholarship students, the fee will be applied to the tuition cost
                   IF INCLUDED WITH THEIR APPLICATION FORM (EITHER ONLINE OR SNAIL MAIL) POSTMARKED NO
                   LATER THAN JUNE 9, 2017.  Students may register on July 8 or 9, 2018; however, the registration fee
                   will not apply to the tuition.

Tuition

$200.00      Full Time Students - Two weeks of day and night classes
$200.00      Day Students - Two weeks of day classes only
$150.00       One Week Students - One week of day and night classes
$125.00       Night Students - Two weeks of night classes only
$ 60.00       Private Lessons - Five 30-minute private lessons
$100.00      Group Private Lessons - Five 30-minute lessons for groups of 2 - 4 people
                       ($200.00 for one-hour lessons)


For more than one student from a single family, tuition for the second student is $175.00; tuition for the third student and all remaining family members will be $150.00 (immediate family members are father, mother, and minor children).  This does not include private lessons.

Those who wish to attend the TSGSM but have limited funds, should work with their church or some other organization to obtain a sponsor. However, students may also print a copy of the scholarship application, complete it, secure the two reference letters and mail the application to Pauline Thompson; 305 Trailwood Drive; Crockett, TX 75835.  Students may also request a scholarship application from Pauline Thompson by emailing their request to d.p.thompson1968@gmail.com or by writing to 305 Trailwood Drive; Crockett, TX  75835.  With your scholarship application, please submit the $25.00 non-refundable registration fee which must be postmarked no later than April 15, 2018.  Scholarship applications postmarked after the deadline or without the $25.00 Registration fee and two reference letters will be incomplete and will not be considered for scholarship funds.  Scholarship recipients will be notified no later than June 1, 2018.

Room and Board

$350.00          Room and Board - Two (2) Weeks
$ 175.00           Room and Board - One (1) Week

This fee covers lodging and meals for the ten days (Sunday and Friday evening meals are not included).  Lodging is available the weekend between the two weeks of the school and on closing night at an additional cost of $15.00 per day per person. The cafeteria is closed from Friday after lunch until Monday morning.  Students and/or faculty staying over the weekend in the dorms are responsible for their own meals.

Dorm facilities consist of suites with two bedrooms, each with two single beds and a full bathroom.  There will be a dorm parent assigned to each group of students.

Commuting Students

Commuting students may purchase meals for $6.50.

Additional Information

Age Requirement

To attend the TSGSM, a student must be at least 7 years of age and be able to read at first-grade level.  Seven year olds must be accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult. Children who are 8 years of age or older may attend without an adult. However, if maturity level of the child affects performance in class, the parent may be asked to come and get the child.

Dormitory Needs

All dorm students must bring toilet articles (soap, toothpaste, shampoo, etc.), hair dryer, curling iron, alarm clock/radio, necessary medications, linens (twin sheets, pillow, pillow case, blankets, towels, wash cloths, etc.), small trash can, garbage bags, and any other items necessary for students to prepare for music camp each day. A list of items to bring may be opened and printed here for each student's convenience. Students may also bring snack items; however, each student must keep his/her room free of open food items to keep unwanted critters from coming to visit. Toilet tissue is furnished. 

Dress Code

For classes, conservative shorts or other modest apparel must be worn. No short shorts, no caps or other head covering in class, no pants with written messages across the hips, no halter or tank tops, no plunging necklines on tops, no body piercings except for the ears on females, and no excessively tight clothing. Dress clothing should be worn for the Closing Program with the same dress code applied. Additionally, young men should wear shirts with collars [NO T-SHIRTS]. Shorts of any length may NOT be worn by male or female students of any age for closing night concert. 

Check In Time

Students may check in Sunday, July 9, 4:00 - 8:00 p.m or Monday, July 10, 7:30 - 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. Sunday registration will be held in Gibson Hall Student Center at Navarro College. Monday registration will be held in the Fine Arts Building.

TSGSM Location

The Texas Southern Gospel School of Music is held at Navarro College; 3200 W. 7th Avenue (Hwy. 31); Corsicana, Texas. Corsicana is easily accessed from all parts of Texas and surrounding states by using Interstate 45 from the north (Dallas, approximately 55 miles) and south (Houston, approximately 171 miles). Exit on Hwy 31 westbound; follow Hwy 31 until you reach Navarro College.

Corsicana is found from the east along Hwy 31, about 76 miles west of Tyler, and from the west along Hwy 31, approximately 50 miles east of Waco.

Navarro College is located on 7th Avenue (Hwy 31), in the west part of town.

TSGSM Security

Security is not only provided by Navarro college but also by the TSGSM for our dorms.
